A large reference volume for writers, The Word Finder combines and greatly enlarges three earlier books—The Verb-Finder, The Adjective-Finder, and The Adverb-Finder—into a single work of over 1,300 pages. It is organized by basic “key” words and common expressions, under which Rodale supplies groups of related and “augmentative” verbs, adjectives, and adverbs meant to enrich and extend an idea rather than simply replace a word, making it more ambitious than a standard thesaurus. The book is intended to help students, journalists, and general writers improve style by finding more vivid and precise wording for their sentences.
